PHOTOGRAPHY AND POEMS

THE RHYME SCHEME OF A POEM

The end of its first line we say

Is indicated by an “a”.

And from then on a matching rhyme

Will be marked “a” but at some time

A different ending we will see

And note that different sound as “b”.

Then writing “c” is what we do

For sounds unlike the other two.

So you can see we’ve used today

Four different letters in this way:

aa, bb, cc, dd

aa again, then twice a “c”.

A little word of warning here

Our eye can sometimes fool our ear.

An “eye rhyme” looks as though the sound

Will be the same but you’ll have found

With “tough” and “through” this isn’t true;

One sounds like “fluff” and one like “do”.

So analyse and have some fun

While scheming – please excuse the pun.
