I have to say, I liked the sound
Of having time to loaf around
And thought that I could bear the loss
Of daily meetings with my boss.
I wasn’t pushed, nor was I fired –
Just chose my time and then retired
To focus on what gave me pleasure
Now a “gentleman of leisure”.
But what one sometimes fails to mention –
You have to manage on your pension.
The lack of stress is heaven sent
But you must eat and pay your rent
And if, like me, you tend to travel
Your budgeting can soon unravel.
I therefore can’t afford to shirk
Occasional bits of freelance work
Since half a loaf, as has been said,
Is better than being out of bread.
