PHOTOGRAPHY AND POEMS

IMPERFECT PITCH

I’m quite a patient kind of chap

But my goat’s got by dogs that yap.

I’ve sometimes seen them, realised

The thing is barely handbag sized

And hasn’t got the depth of chest

To bark along with all the rest

But bigger dogs I’ve sometimes found

Can make that penetrating sound.

So dogs that yap instead of bark

Are quite a mystery in the dark.

Is that one yapping, hurt, in pain?

Or does it have a too-tight chain?

Perhaps it took a brutal kick

Or tries to say it’s feeling sick?

May be a bigger dog is near

And it is yapping out of fear?

It could be any one of these;

Can’t tell – I don’t speak yappinese!
