CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT

A crown’s a kind of jewelled hat

Which may be tall or maybe flat.

But, much the most important thing,

The wearer is a queen or king.

To put the crown upon their head

Makes it official, then it’s said

There’s been a formal coronation

(A kind of kingly obligation).

And if this does seem rather dull

You can hit someone on the skull

The verb “to crown” is just as good,

“I crowned him with a piece of wood.”

Two other uses you may see:

The crown’s the top part of a tree

While for Norwegian, Dane or Swede

A crown’s the money they all need.

When Britain still used shillings, pence

(Which didn’t make a lot of sense)

There was a coin, not now around,

That was the eighth part of a pound;

“Two shillings sixpence”, you may frown

But I recall that “half a crown”.
